Sonoma County Real Estate Moving Checklist

 

  • Send change of address notifications
  • The Post Office will provide a form for you to turn in
  • Charge Accounts
  • Subscriptions---may take several weeks to process
  • Friends and relatives moving cards (ask your Realtor for help)
  • Financial Institutions---transfer funds an arrange for new checks
  • Insurance---life, health, auto
  • Automobile---transfer registration, driver’s license, motor club membership
  • Utility Companies---telephone, gas, electric, water, cable (provide closing
  • bill address, and don’t forget to request refunds of any deposits.)
  • Other Service Providers---garbage, yard, housecleaning, newspaper
  • School---pick up or arrange for forwarding of children’s school records; if
  • staying at same school, change emergency notification cards.
  • Health---obtain referrals from present doctors, transfer prescriptions
  • Churches, Clubs, Civic Organizations
  • Pets---obtain referral from present vet, order new licenses and ID tags
  • As You Approach Moving Day
  • Use up food
  • Plan special care needs for children and pets
  • Check, and check again, packing and moving arrangements
  • On Moving Day
  • Carry---cash and traveler’s checks, prescriptions, cell phone or pager
  • Pets---secure in a closed room or cage to avoid losing an agitated animal
  • Appoint friend or relative “point person” and give him/her route and schedule
  • Leave---old keys and garage door openers with your Realtor

When you reach your “New Home” set up the bed first, it’s great to sleep in a fresh bed after a hard day of moving
